Maverick Message

Dear Parents:

I hope that our students enjoyed their extra day off this week, even though it did not snow. I know that my boys were disappointed that we did not see any of the white stuff and I have to say that I was too. However, I am glad that we did not miss a day of school (at least at the writing of this letter) and that we can enjoy the warmer weather coming soon!

Last week was a busy week at Mill Creek that included community involvement and partnerships. This began on Monday at our PTA meeting. It was wonderful to see so many parents and community members attend our meeting to support our students in the amazing Wax Museum presented by our third grade students.  The same night, several of our students were honored at the Madison City Council meeting for their outstanding artwork in poster contest. We continue to partner with the American Heart Association for our Jump Rope for Heart campaign. I thoroughly enjoyed looking at the Science Fair experiments. Many of the students involved community members in their experiments. Our Junior Leaders presented "goody" boxes and treats to the families, doctors, and nurses of the NICU unit. We partnered with James Clemens High School's Teaching and Learning class. Their students visited our classrooms to observed elementary instruction. Mill Creek is very blessed that three of our Girl Scouts wrote and published a book. This book was donated to our library. The afternoon of February 13th, our faculty spent the afternoon sharing ways that we can build a sense of community in our school and in the classrooms of MCES.  This is an essential foundation of our school. Each grade level then collaborated together on various instructional practices in order to meet the needs of our students.

As I continued to visit classrooms last week, I really enjoyed learning with our students. It is exciting to hear our students talk about what they are learning and why it is relevant to their lives. I love to hear their answers when I ask, "How are you going to use this in real life?"

I look forward to another amazing week being a Maverick!
