2. Objectives

Students will be able to analyze the setting place, time, and mood in the story.

3. Mini-lesson activities

The teacher and students will review the definition of the story setting and discuss the setting of Harriet Tubman. Discuss, "How do we analyze the setting of a story?" Choose a student to read aloud the short passage The Song of the Trees. Together, analyze the setting and how it affects the story. On chart paper using a storyboard format, together map out the time and place (setting) / cite the evidence, character's mood / cite the evidence, and character's actions / cite the evidence.
