Barbara Bechtel midwife
Four Decades of Service as Midwife and Nurse
Barbara Bechtel, experienced midwife and delivery nurse, commands
more than 40 years of patient care experience. She began her career as a
registered nurse in the labor and delivery unit of Ball Memorial
Hospital in Muncie, Indiana, where she rose to the position of head
nurse. Barbara Bechtel then set out along the path that ultimately led
her to become a midwife. She served as a perinatal nurse consultant for
Kimberly Quality Care, where she built experience in home care for
at-risk expectant mothers. In addition, she accepted a number of
teaching and consultancy roles, including a position as instructor of
nursing at Ball State University.
Dedicated to a career in childbirth, Barbara Bechtel then attended Frontier School of Midwifery and Family Nursing, where she earned her board certification. She proceeded to use her training as owner and supervisory midwife for Expectations Birthing Center. Two years later, she opened a second organization, Nurse Midwives of Indianapolis. She most recently served as interim director of The Brooklyn Birthing Center, where she directed policy and procedure development in addition to providing care.
