Bay of Pigs

What: The US gave the CIA the task of overthrowing Fidel Castro's government by training exiles from Cuba who had fled Cuba when Fidel Castro became leader. They would sneak back into Cuba and gather others to overthrow Castro.
Where: Bay of Pigs, Cuba
When: April 17, 1961
Why: Fidel Castro was an ardent communist and helped lead the Cuban Revolution in overthrowing the existing government in Cuba. He was allied with the Soviet Union and that concerned the US because this gave the Soviet Union a foothold in the US.
Summary: The US gave the CIA the task of overthrowing Fidel Castro's government. They trained exiles that came from Cuba when Fidel Castro became leader. On April 17, 1961 the US entered the Bay of Pigs in Cuba but once they got there the Cubians were prepared and they captured many of our soldiers.
