An Ode to Beef Ramen

Have you found yourself craving a plate of beef noodles,
But feel that your attempts to create them are futile?
Fear not my dear friends, I’ve got you covered,
With the best steak ramen recipe I’ve ever discovered!

An ingredient list - it does not all rhyme,
but read on ahead for an extra good time:

  • 9 Ounces Flank Steak
  • 4 Ounces Choy Sum (or bok choy)
  • 4 Cloves Garlic
  • 3 Scallions
  • 2 Ounces Enoki Mushrooms
  • 1 1-Inch Piece Ginger
  • 3 Tablespoons Beef Demi-Glace
  • 3 Tablespoons White Miso Paste
  • 2 Tablespoons Soy Sauce
  • 1/8 Cup Hoisin Sauce
  • 12 Ounces Fresh Ramen Noodles

First and foremost, always remember;
Vegetables you must wash, dry and dismember.
Start chopping the garlic, ginger and scallion,
Put salted water to boil in a manner Italian.

Continue your prep, everything in bitesize pieces,
Doesn’t have to be perfect, I won’t call the polices.
Oh! And the white parts of the scallion you must separate,
If you get overwhelmed, be sure to delegate.

Heat up your oil until it is sizzling,
Don’t be shy, use quite a drizzling.
This pot will be home to all noodles and broth,
So make sure it is big enough to handle the froth.

Season your steak with both pepper and salt,
Though I'm sure this is something you do by default.

Sear both sides, this part is important;
The rest of the soup will be flavored accordant.
I always prefer rare, you may disagree,
But you may be judged as bourgeoisie.

Remove the steak and leave it to rest,
Cook your aromatics until coalesced.

The next step is easy, throw what’s left in the pot!
Bring it up to a boil, it must be quite hot.
Now bring it down to a simmer, it will smell like cloud nine,
Take a quick break for a deserved glass of wine. :)

Now your steak must be sliced, I like it quite thin,
Then toss in a bowl and coat with hoisin.
Remember that pot of water left boiling?
Double check that H2O is full on roiling.

If your noodles are fresh, it won’t take more than a minute,
If they are pre-packaged, cook just under the limit.
Make sure your bowls are ready to receive your great soup,
Serving it cold will make you feel like a nincompoop.

So now here we are, you’ll put it all together,
This dish perfect for summer or cold weather.
Pour broth over noodles with the greatest of care,
You’re juuuuust about ready for your social affair.
