Intro to Mythology

What is Mythology?
Myths are tales from traditions of certain peoples and cultures, such as the Greeks and Romans. The concept of Mythology was created to explain events that we don't know the reason for.
Who was Zeus?
Zeus or Jupiter, was one of the three main Greek gods; Zeus, Poseidon, Hades. Zeus has many children, but the most recognizable ones are Heracles, Perseus, Ares, Artemis, Pan, Persephone and Athena. Zeus' parents were the titans, Cronus and Rhea. Zeus' siblings were Poseidon, Hades, Hestia, Demeter and Hera, his wife. Zeus' powers include the control over weather, shape-shifting and the lightning bolt. Zeus is most commonly represented by lightning or a thunderstorm. Zeus' main role was the head of the gods.
What was the Chimera?
The Chimera was a two-headed beast. One head was a lion, and the other, a goat. The Chimera's tail was a snake with a poisonous bite. To make matters worse, the lion head breathed fire! The front half was a lion and the back half was a goat. The Chimera's powers were the fire breathing, venom in the snake, human intelligence and super strength.
My Myth Summary
One day on Mount. Olympus, Zeus was very bored. He looked down and noticed that his people were misbehaving. Zeus looked around and saw a ferocious lion, a slithering snake and a galloping goat. He thought some more, and came to the conclusion that he could mix the three animals. Zeus did so, and he called it the Chimera. He sent the Chimera into the city to terrorize the people. The people stopped doing bad things and Zeus called back the Chimera. Now whenever someone misbehaves, everyone warns them.
Modern Day Connections
The three main Gods of Olympus represent a modern day oligarchy. Where a few people make decisions and the citzens vote for which idea they like best. Today we can see the Milky Way galaxy. Well, back then, people thaought that the Milky Way was te road for stars to take to get to Zeus' palace.
