The Wooden O Theater

In 1599, Richard Burbage built the first permanent settled theater. In 1599, the owner of the land on which Burbage had built his theater apparently decided to raise the rent. On the night of January 20, 1599, James Burbage's sone Cuthbert and others on the company stealthily took their theater apart timber by timber and rowed the pieces across the river where it was later reconstructed and called "The Globe".
