Chicago's Importance

                  By: Juanita Rodriguez

Dear Reader,

Did you know Chicago is the third most populous city in the United States? Chicago is located in Northeastern Illinois on the southwestern shores of Lake Michigan. It has a beautiful lakeshore view. There are many different sides to Chicago. There's a beautiful sky line and a wonderful view in Downtown. If you look deeper into Chicago you will see what matters the most, community. It has 2.7 million residents.

Chicago is important to me because of its community. We need to help improve our city. Chicago's CPS system needs to be improved to eliminate the slight imperfections. Chicago should be a safe place where our children can expand their knowledge and begin their careers. Working together we can help the city strive. Our community can inspire future leaders. Our children are the future. This is why Chicago is important to me.

CPS vs. Charter Schools

                  By: Juanita Rodriguez

Today I will be interviewing Edith Rodriguez. She is a nineteen year old student at Wilbur Wright College. She's the second oldest of four children. She is hoping to one day make her parents proud and prove that you don't need to be a genius to succeed, but you need to be hardworking.

Juanita: Hello, how are you?

Edith:Great and you?

Juanita: Good, I'll start with simple questions.

Edith: Ok.

Juanita: What high school did you attend?

Edith:Foreman High School but I transferred to Aspira Charter School my senior year.

Juanita: Why?

Edith: I transferred because there were many fights and it was a bad school.

Juanita: Why did you pick a charter school?

Edith: I picked a charter school because I was reading online that charter schools provide more opportunities. They have less students which means you will have more one-on-one time with teachers and they'll pay more attention to you. They have a better education system.

Juanita: So transferring benefitted you?

Edith: Yes, at Foreman there were too many distractions. I would get distracted by fights and loud people. It used to bother me when people were just yelling in the middle of class. I tried my best to focus on school and graduating.

Juanita: Why did you choose senior year?

Edith:Well, I noticed that my grades were dropping. My freshman year I was doing great in school but I wanted to get a bit more prepared for college and Foreman wasn't really a going to help with that.

Juanita: Were there any other obstacles during your high school career that would make you want to drop out?

Edith: Actually there wasn't. I always found a way to stay motivated and go to class. Like I did when I decided to transfer.

Juanita: What motivated you?

Edith: My parents. I've always wanted to walk across a stage, look at the audience and see my parents smiling.

Juanita: What courses are you taking?

Edith:Well, I'm taking my basics first. In August for my third semester I'll start going into bigger labs to learn more about health and fitness. After two years I'll be going to a four year university in Champaign.

Juanita: What are your plans for the future?

Edith: I want to become a doctor. It has always fascinated me. I want to save lives.

Jay Z vs Solange

                 By: Juanita Rodriguez

He got 99 problems is Solange one? In the first week of May, there was a video of Solange Knowles attacking Jay-Z in an elevator as they left the Met Gala after party. Sources say Solange was upset that designer, Rachel Roy was getting "too close" to Jay-Z. As the sister in law she had to stand up and say something. She confronted Roy but Roy is not a pushover and didn't back down.
Recently, BeyoncĂ©, Jay-Z, and Solange released a statement."...the most important thing is that our family has worked throughout it. Jay and Solange assume their share of responsibility for what has occurred. They both acknowledge their role in this private matter has played out in public.." Their statement was very true, all families have problems. The employee who leaked the video was fired immediately because it was an invasion of privacy. They have said their apologies and will keep their strong bond.
