Medieval Wedding Facts
Marriage wasn't based on love. Marriages were political and social arrangements. Husbands and wives were mostly strangers until they first met. Love was expected to come after the couple had been married and if it didn't, the couple would at least developed a friendship of some kind.
A wedding in the middle ages never actually took place inside the church as it does today. They held the ceremony outside the church door before entering for a nuptial mass.
Long foreheads were considered beautiful, so brides would pluck their hairline to give themselves longer foreheads
Brides often wore blue as a symbol of purity and faithfulness.
The custom of wearing "something blue" is rooted in medieval times, as is the tradition of wearing the garter belt.
During the ceremony in front of the church doors the man stood on the right side and the woman stood on the left side. This was because the female was formed out of a rib in the left side of Adam by God. Today The man and woman still stand on the same side
