  • Germany, my final country in europe. I picked this country to learn more  about WW2 and The Holocaust

On the 19 of  Feb 1942 Darwin came under attack for the first time when Japanese forces mounted two air raids. The two attacks, which were planned and led by the commander responsible for attacking Pearl Harbour ten weeks earlier, involved 54 land-based bombers and approximately 188 attack aircraft which were launched from four Japanese aircraft-carriers in the Timor Sea.

In the first attack, which began just before 10.00 am, heavy bombers pattern-bombed the harbour and town; dive bombers escorted by Zero fighters then attacked shipping in the harbour, the military and civil aerodromes, and the hospital at Berrimah. The attack ceased after about 40 minutes.

The second attack, which began an hour later, involved high altitude bombing of the Royal Australian Air Force base at Parap which lasted for 20–25 minutes. The two raids killed at least 243 people and between 300 and 400 were wounded. Twenty military aircraft were destroyed, eight ships at anchor in the harbour were sunk, and most civil and military facilities in Darwin were destroyed.

The Vietnam war started on the 1 of November 1955 and ended on the 30 of April 1975 (it lasted 19 years, 5 months, 4 weeks and 1 day) It took place throughout South Vietnam, North Vietnam,Cambodia, Laos and Thailand

The North Vietnamese were strong and did not give in easily which resulted in the withdrawal of American forces from Indochina (south east Asia) and the Communist governments to take power in South Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos.

One of the most known Australian Battles of the Vietnam War was the Battle of Long Tan, 18 August 1966. The battle saw the action of 108 ANZACS against a Viet Cong (North Vietnamese) force estimated between 1,500 and 2,500. The Battle was one of the heaviest conflicts of the Vietnam War as well as one the few battles in the history of the world to be won against such odds.
