Floods form when there is low pressure and when there warm fronts. It takes hours sometimes even days to form a flood. Floods are just a blanket of mud sleet and slit. Anywhere rain falls there will be flood or melting snow you might get floods and it can be very windy or when rivers or lakes rise the houses by the river and lakes. The Great Flood of 1937, killing 435 people, Ohio river, 15 inches of rain in in only 12 days, houses were flipped and nobody really knew that it was coming. The flood in 2013 Colorado flood, 20 floods and there was $2 million of damage, high pressure, killing 144 people, they actually knew that it was coming because they watched the news and the sirens went off.
$3 million dollars in damage sometimes even more to houses and cars. Floods kills more people in one year than blizzards, tornadoes, and lightning. The floods can destroy homes cars buildings anything.
To prevent flooding we can keep storm drain free from leaves and other things. Pick up all leaves and sticks to make sure that they don't clog something. You can also keep all materials away from the drains and from rivers. Scientifically you can watch the news or listen to the radio.
