At cosmetology schools, students learn the skills and techniques needed to pass their state licensing exam for hair, nails, makeup, safety and sanitation. Every state has slightly different training hour requirements to be able to sit for the cosmetology board exams. But as a rule, courses for cosmetologist certification can include hair cutting, styling, coloring, shampooing, and permanent waving, as well as manicures and pedicures, facials, makeup application, nail technology, and more . There will be job opportunities available in cosmetology over the next decade. There will be strong competition for jobs in upscale salons.
