Our 5th Grade Journey in Panem!
Fifth grade students read The Hunger Games this year, and it was quite an exciting journey. The book is fascinating, and is based on many ideas from Greek Mythology. We had some very interesting discussions about why the author chose to write such a shocking story, and her answers were quite informative.
The story begins in District 12, and the first shock comes when Katniss volunteers to take her sister's place in the Hunger Games, which is a fight to the death reality game meant to keep all of the districts in line. The "Capitol" wants to suppress any future revolutions, and the games are a way to remind each district of the cost, should they decide to revolt again.
