Never fear Heifer is Here!!!
Billions live in hunger and poverty every day. Who and how will we help them? Or will we ever help them? We should, shouldn't we? This is why I nominate Heifer International for the Conrad Hilton Humanitarian Award.
Heifer International is the answer to the questions above. Every day animals are donated with love and care to help the needy in continents such as North America, South America, Europe, Africa, and Asia. It costs money to purchase and ship animals from continent to continent, so it is a non profit organization built to help the needy.
Dan West the founder of Heifer was helping with the Spanish Civil War handing out powdered milk to civilians as he did this he realized these people needed a cow not powdered milk. Dan stated, “not a cup but a cow” because the cow would provide more milk than that cup would. Dan West was an American farmer, father, husband, missionary, and “father” of Heifer. He taught his children not to be wasteful. Heifer started in 1944 meaning it is 71 years old.
Heifer help Uganda for nearly thirty years, and it has helped tremendously. Heifer helps not one but all, they do this by having the people pass on the gift. People pass on the gift by giving baby animals to others and teach them what they learned. One cow can change today's world. The cow builds economy strength and can make the world a better place. Uganda is an example of what the world can become, hope for the poor through livestock donations.
The 12 cornerstones of Heifer are the base of the operation. The 12 Cornerstones are the requirements for the village or family that receives the gift of a cow. They 12 cornerstones are: PASSING ON THE GIFT ACCOUNTABILITYSHARING & CARINGSUSTAINABILITY & SELF-RELIANCEIMPROVED ANIMAL MANAGEMENTNUTRITION & INCOMEGENDER & FAMILY FOCUSGENUINE NEED & JUSTICEIMPROVING THE ENVIRONMENTFULL PARTICIPATIONTRAINING & EDUCATIONSPIRITUALITY
Two qualities that would help Heifer win the award:
-Heifer International is persistent through harder tasks such as trying to help all the poor places in the world
-Heifer International is generous to the needy giving to the people what they need and deserve they have donated so much to the poor
Heifer should win the Conrad Hilton Humanitarian award because Heifer International has helped so many people and need that grant to help more people. Heifer provides resources for people to help themselves. Instead of giving them a handout, Heifer gives a cow or other livestock so people in the village can support themselves and boost their economy.
