Does having material wealth make you happy? A perfect body? The perfect smile? The one with the most money? Positive psychologist Dr. Robert Biswas-Diener proved that to be wrong. He researched Kenyans who do not have the wealth as other countries, they describe themselves as happy. This doesn’t mean when you are wealthy you are unhappy, it means that wealth doesn’t always lead to happiness.
Dr. Robert Holden, a psychologist is recognizing ways to be happy, starting off with accepting who you are as a person. Accepting yourself and the flaws you have along with your strengths can positively change your attitude. So can you be happy without being happy with who you are? Some would have to disagree. If you are happy with who you are you are generally more happy than others ,when something goes wrong you will find different ways to solve the problem positively. People who are unhappy with themselves tend to turn to unhealthy alternatives, such as lashing out when something goes wrong or giving up.
“Rejoice with those who are joyful, weep with those who weep” (Roman 12:15). Happiness can hurt others. Seeing it as you have succeeded where they have failed.
