Puerto Rico (Estado Libre Asociado de Puerto Rico)
By: Bayli Tilley
Estado Libre Asociado de Puerto Rico is an unincorporated territory of the United States. It is located in Northeastern Caribbean, east of the Dominican Republic, and west of the U.S. Virgin Islands. There are 3,620,897 people living in this beautiful country. The capital of Puerto Rico is San Juan. When you travel keep your money the way it is because they use U.S. dollars! Spanish and English are the native languages of Puerto Rico.
San Juan National Historic Site would be a great place to visit if you want to learn more about the culture of the country. Dr. Juan A. Rivero Zoo would also be a great place to visit because it's the only zoo on the island. The zoo was named after it's first director. The Las Cascadas Water Park would also be awesome to visit because it's the biggest water park in the Caribbean Region.
Some slang words that you will need to know before you travel here is:
-Janguiar: to hang out
-Ahora: right now
-Arreempujate pa ca: come this way. get closer
Food and Drink
Some popular food in Puerto Rico that I would recommend trying while you're there is lechón asado which is barbecued pig. Another dish to try is Arroz con pollo which is chicken with rice. You're gonna need something to drink to go with these meals so try Puerto Rican Coffee and a Piña Colada.
Climate and Geography
Puerto Rico has a tropical climate all year long. The temperature is mostly in the 80's and 70's all year round. Puerto Rico is mostly flat and beautiful!
This dance is important to the culture because it has been around for many years and it's a tradition to their culture to do this dance at festivals.
