This image is titled How many times people have experienced peer pressure. "The average age of respondents was 13 years old and most of the respondents live in the USA, UK, Canada, or Australia." said Smartgirl in the article Reports on Peer Pressure.
"People don't realize how much peer pressure, the desire for peer acclamation, influences them." said Frederica Mathewes-Green
The dictionary definition of peer pressure is an influence on a peer group, observers or individual exerts that encourages others to change their attitudes, values, or behaviors to conform to groups.
Peer pressure is the average 8th graders biggest challenge because this can affect the rest of your life and one of the most important things, your high school career. They get peer pressured into skipping class, drugs, alcohol, bullying, looking right, dieting or body building and many more. It can get you addicted and involved in the wrong groups too. People our age get peer pressured everyday. 8th graders are even more peer pressured because they want to have a social group before high school. They want to know what crowd they fit in and can hang out with before they take this big step. To fit in with a group teens think they need to be more like them. They do what that group does no matter what the cost because to most teens my age a social life is way more important than grades and a future.
Maria R. T. de Guzman, said in the article Friendships, Peer Influence, and Peer Pressure During the Teen Years, "Adolescence is a time when peers play an increasingly important role in the lives of youth. Teens begin to develop friendships that are more intimate, exclusive, and more constant than in earlier years.”
“Some kids give into peer pressure because they want to be liked, to fit in, or because they worry that other kids may make fun of them if they don't go along with the group. Others may go along because they are curious to try something new that others are doing. The idea that "everyone's doing it" may influence some kids to leave their better judgment, or their common sense, behind.” said the University of Michigan in the article Adolescents and Peer Pressure.
Your decisions right before high school are important this is why peer pressure is the 8th graders biggest challenge.
