Founder of Equality Charter School
As Executive Director of the Equality Charter School, Caitlin Franco draws on her experience with data-driven teaching methods at public and charter elementary, middle, and high schools throughout the northeast to help students achieve academic excellence. Over eight years of overseeing programs, strategy, and operations at a Bronx middle and high school she has developed curricula, built facilities, and acquired educational technologies that have helped the school outperform other Bronx schools in proficiency in math and languages. The result has been a facility that has consistently maintained its status among the top three percent of schools in New York City.
Additionally, Caitlin Franco has overseen the school's community outreach efforts and the establishment of an adult education program that provides opportunities for people who wish to continue learning.
Ms. Franco is an alumna of Harvard University where she earned her M.Ed and Stony Brook University where she earned a BA in English education. Additionally, she holds NYS certifications as a school building leader and in English language arts 7-12. Prior to her current position, she worked as a teacher.
Adult Programming Supports the Bronx Community
An educator with more than a decade of experience in teaching and program coordination, Caitlin Franco is the founder and Executive Director of the Equality Charter School in the Bronx, New York. Caitlin Franco’s school partners with a number of local businesses and community organizations to provide a variety of programs for both children and adults. Equality Charter School’s partners include Boys Town, Office of the Bronx Borough President, AARP, Bronx Community College, Office of the Bronx District Attorney, Mount Sinai Hospital, Wukkout!, and the YMCA.
One such class is the Caribbean / Soca Fitness class given by Wukkout!. This is an hour long Caribbean based dance fitness class designed by Krista Martins, to make you have fun and sweat just like you would if you were at Carnival! Our last class had 45 participants from the community. We welcome all Bronx community members to join!
Big Sister Boston Helps Girls Navigate Life Choices
Equality Charter School co-founder and Executive Director Caitlin Franco oversees the Bronx, New York-based educational institution in providing academic, emotional, and social support to middle and high school students. Caitlin Franco formerly volunteered with Big Sister Association of Greater Boston (Big Sister Boston), which assists girls and young women through initiatives like the Life Choices program.
Designed to provide girls and young women with a safe space, Life Choices utilizes a group-mentoring model that encourages them to explore life choices. A dedicated Big Sister Boston staff member oversees mentoring groups and ensures that participants receive the necessary support to overcome life’s challenges and make healthy decisions. Furthermore, Life Choices groups promote a sense of sisterhood and foster an environment of mutual respect between girls and young women on the one hand and adults on the other. The curriculum incorporates group activities and discussions that increase understanding of social-emotional development and complex gender issues.
Life Choices groups meet on a weekly basis at schools and community centers.
