Who Is Tim Duncan?
Tim was born April 25, 1976 in St. Croix, Virgin Islands. As a child his mother encouraged him to swim and he began to love swimming. He practiced for years and was expected to go to the 1992 Olympics for swimming, but sadly in 1989, when Duncan was 13, a hurricane swept threw his town and destroyed his swimming pool which ruined his training. Also later that year his mother died and Tim lost all will to swim. That's when he started playing Basketball.Duncan stood 6ft tall going into high school as a freshmen so he was a pretty good sized kid, he also had a brother in law, Ricky Lowry, who played college ball for capital University in Ohio, and he trained Duncan at the power forward position. Duncan played basketball through high school and once he graduated he received a basketball scholarship to play on the Wake Forest Demon Deacons while he majored in psychology. After Duncan's second year of playing college he had million dollar offers to move up to the NBA, but he wanted to finish college and get his psychology degree. After finishing college Duncan was drafted by the San Antonio Spurs and he is currently still playing with them. (Tim, Duncan)
What are some advantages Tim Duncan possesses that make him a great player?
There are many reasons why Tim is such a dominant player in the NBA. For starters he is huge, standing 7 feet tall and weighing 248 pounds, making him a force to be reckoned with in the paint. When Duncan was a kid he was trained by Ricky Lowry as I mentioned before. Also Tim has a wide variety of skills you don't usually find in a post player, since he wasn't always huge he learned some of the fundamentals a guard would have learned resulting in Duncan being able to dribble, shoot, defend all types of players, rebound, pass, and score exceptionally well. Another skill, one that is very difficult to learn or teach, is that Duncan is always 100% in control of his emotions. His degree in psychology helps him to maintain control of his game against players who like to trash talk. All of these and so much more make Duncan the future hall of famer he is.(Tim, Duncan)
What are some of the achievements he has reached over his career?
Tim Duncan won NCAA defensive player of the year in all 3 years of playing college ball(94-95, 95-96, and 96-97). He won the NBA rookie of the year award in the 97-98 season, and was a 2 time MVP in the 01-02 and 02-03 seasons. He won NBA championships in 1999, 2001, 2003, and 2005. Duncan was voted the Finals MVP in the 1999, 2001, and 2005 championships(Smith). Over his NBA and NCAA career Duncan has averaged a double double for rebounds meaning he usually scores over 10 points and receives 10 or more rebounds. He is a 14 time all-star, a future hall of famer, and one of the greatest players of all time.
