Respected Houston Television Journalist
Based in Houston, Texas, Carmen Maria Montiel has a background as an award-winning television journalist. A national beauty pageant model as a teenager in her native Venezuela, she gained a position as host of the Venevision program “Buenos Dias Venezuela” in the mid-1980s. Carmen María Montiel also hosted the weekly Venevision celebrity news show “Close Up” and produced and hosted a radio program focused on youth achievements. While completing a degree in journalism at the Universidad Central de Venezuela in Caracas, she hosted the morning network magazine “Complicidades,” which encompassed news, interviews, and general-interest stories.
Ms. Montiel emigrated to the United States to pursue a bachelor’s degree in broadcasting and Spanish at East Tennessee State University. After graduating magna cum laude, she assisted in pre- and post-production capacities with the WSJK-Channel 2 program “Omni.” Ms. Montiel was a reporter, writer, and news anchor with Telemundo in Houston throughout the early 1990s and helped craft and deliver weekly evening newscasts. Ms. Montiel continues to play a prominent role in the Houston community and has been invited to chair gala and fashion show events at the Latino Learning Center.
