Sodium is a micronutrient, it is only needed in small amounts.
Sodium does no occur naturally, it is always found in compounds.
Why plant needs this Nutrient?
Helps plants bring water into themselves through osmosis. Water diffuses across the concentration gradient (towards the higher concentration, to balance things out into the plant.
Two signs that a plant is lacking this nutrient is that the leaves will begin to yellow, or the plant will begin to wilt.
More often than not plants lacking sodium is not a problem, but if it does become a problem you would need to buy a fertilizer with sodium in it.
