Life isn't a crystal stair.
The Mother wants what is best for her son and she is trying to explain that life isn't a crystal stair to her son by using her own life for an example on how she has had her ups and downs/tuff times going through life. She doesn't want her son to fall she wants her son to pick himself right back up, keep on moving, and learn from his mistakes he has made.
In the Poem Mother and Daughter by Langston Hughes a mother is trying to reach out to her son about life and how it is not crystal clear. The Poem also talk about how the mother has to some sharp/risky turns in her life that lead her to the dark and no light but she is still persevering and still saying that Life isn't no crystal stair. The mother states " I'se been a-climbin' on, and reachin' landin's and turnin' corners, And sometimes goin' in the dark Where there aint been no light. She also states that "And Life for me ain't been no crystal stair". Life is not always going to be crystal clear. There are always going to be ups and downs, left and right and sometimes we make the wrong turn which guides us into a dark state in our lives where there is no light. We shouldn't fall down even if we are in a ruff state right now in our lives we should persevere and we should continue strong because we may never know what the future holds until we try to keep our head on straight, keep the faith, and keep it moving forward. All mothers want there sons/daughters to know what is best, that everything is not perfect in this world, that there are people in this world who try and knock other people down but you cant focus on the past you have to forgive and face toward the future. The mother is setting out an obvious theme that don't give up trying you have to pick yourself up if you fall and continue to move on. I tell you this that life isn't a crystal stair. Your going to have your battles because life isn't always fair and it isn't always easy but keep moving on because it is not worth shedding one tear when times are complicated. You find it harder when you fall and continue to sit there.
