Chelci Borland: Pre Finals "Dead Week"

Hey Hilltoppers!
I would love to say how much I hope the semester is ending nicely for you, and I do hope that, but let’s be honest; it’s the week before final exams and stress is running through our veins. Did you know that this week actually has slang term? It’s called “Dead Week”. I’m serious! Google it!

In the mean time, let’s take a second to talk about some ways you can feel more prepared for your finals next week. All of these are study tips that I really wish I would have used my very first semester!

  • You can’t cram. Don’t try it. I will be the first to tell you that it is the surefire way to fail. A study habit that I have taken on is dedicating each class/subject to one day, and then studying for 45 minutes at a time. For example, today I studied for nothing but my Audiology exam, and tomorrow I will study for my Research Methods exam. That has actually been the best method for me.
  • Get 8 hours of sleep every night. I’ve never really had an issue with this because I love sleep no matter what’s going on that week. I have, however, attempted to take an exam at 8am after staying up until 2am the night before. I won’t be doing that again. Your body really does need its rest.
  • Talk to your professors! This is the best tip I can give anyone. Every professor I have had will tell the class “The final will be on ____ and I will be in my office during ____ if you have any questions.” He/she is practically inviting you to get a good grade if you just stop by and talk about any or all of the content you think will be on the final.
