Surviving Hiroshima

By Lauren Drozdowski

Theme - Survival

This is a picture of a survivor of the Hiroshima bombing, staring at the ruins of his destroyed city.  The building in the distance is a large dome, the only building left standing after the bomb.

If I had been able to provide assistance to the survivors, I would have gathered food and water for them.  I could not have played a medical role, considering I know nothing about treating severe injuries.  Although medical assistiance may help more, food and water is still crucial to their survival*

*this is what I hope hope I would have done, but I don't know how I would react in a situation like this

Poem

Thousands of lives were lost
on that unforgettable day
and although it came at a cost
it was a cost the U.S. was willing to pay

It was the only way to end the war
and all the pain and strife
Hiroshima was filled with death and gore
and many ended up paying with their life

Was the bombing really worth it?
Did it really end the pain?
It was a horrible deed to commit
but it was not done in vain

The war had ended, the killing had stopped
The U.S. and Japan were at peace
but only after the bomb was dropped
did the war really cease

I chose this video because it really gave the viewer a perspective on what the Japanese survivors had witnessed when the bomb was dropped

Pompeii

By Bastille

And the walls kept tumbling down

In the city that we love

Great clouds roll over the hills

Bringing darkness from above

Oh where do we begin?
The rubble or our sins?
Oh where do we begin?
The rubble or our sins?
