Background Info.

Fredrick Douglass was a former slave and a famous human rights leader.  He was born into slavery in Talbot country, Maryland, around 1812.  

escapes in 1838 to the north.

In 1841 Speaks at an abolitionist meeting in Massachusetts and is employed as a lecturer for the anti-slavery.

The first black citizen to hold a high U.S. government rank.

Created a newspaper called the north star.
