The hall was first established twenty years ago, after lawmakers in the state unanimously passed a bill named the Tennessee Sports Hall of Fame Act of 1994. Four years after that achievement, Curry Todd was elected into the Tennessee House of Representatives.

The mission of the hall is to show consideration to sports as a model that reflects the ideals of an organized society. Good sportsmanship values endorse the aspects of healthy competition and fair play that drive people to be the best at what they do.
