How did the Native Americans of the Northwest coast use the abundant resources of the region? The Pacific Northwest Indians had many resources. They were salmon, shellfish, whales, seals, berries, fern roots, geese, deer, elk, bears, cedar wood, and bark. They ate all of them except for the cedar wood and the bark. They uses the cedar wood to make canoes called dugouts. They also used cedar wood to make houses and totem poles. Totem poles are tall poles carved and painted with human and animal figures. They used bark to make clothes because they didn't have cotton or wool.
