What is the fault in our stars?
The Fault in our Stars is a novel written by the brilliant mind of John Greene. This piece of literature has received a lot of praise from critics and is based on a true story. This novel mostly takes place in Indianapolis and other real locations
Issac is a teenager who after receiving surgery is now blind but with no evidence of cancer . He used to have a girlfriend in which he always said always to meaning that they'll always love each other but his girlfriend feels that it's eventually too much and dumps him. Issac now only has Augustus and Hazel to rely on.
Augustus is a 17 year-old teenager that has a crush on Hazel. He has a prosthetic leg because of Osteosarcoma which took it away. He is muscular with mahogany hair, has blue eyes, is an ex-athlete, has a deep voice, laid back, and is very smart and bold.
Hazel is the main protagonist of the story and we see everything from her point of view. She has an oxygen tank which she calls Philip and it delivers two liters of oxygen every minute to her lungs because Hazel has lung cancer. She has a pixie hair cut with brown eyes and chipmunk cheeks because of the treatment. She slowly is falling in love Augustus Waters in every moment she spends with him.
There are many symbols and themes within the Fault in Our Stars but because the book is so deep we can't find them all so here are the biggest ones.
Every once in a while Augustus puts a cigarette in his mouth to calm him I assume. The first time Hazel saw this she completely freaked considering the fact that she has lung cancer. Then Augustus explains that the entire thing is a metaphor. "You put the killing thing in your mouth but you don't give it the power to kill you". It's kind of like biting the bullet.
An Imperial Affliction
An Imperial Affliction is a book that belongs to Hazel and let Augustus borrow. It's about a girl the has cancer and starts a foundation but the catch is that the book ends right in the middle of it leaving the rest with blank pages. This book means do much to Hazel and Augustus that they even contact the author who moved to the Netherlands. This book is kind of a symbol because it tells Hazel what will happen to her before it even happens and she can relate to it so much.
Augustus used to play basketball just to make his father proud proud but because he was already an athlete he was really good at it that Augustus earned many trophies. The thing is that those trophies aren't a part of him at least anymore. They represent his past self and he can't play anymore because of his prosthetic leg.
From what we know from the first five chapters so far is that the main setting is Indianapolis in late winter. Soon Hazel and Augustus are traveling to the Netherlands to have a meet with the author of An Imperial Affliction as they have been invited by him.
