Rita Dove

Rita dove was born August 28, 1952 she is now 61 years old. Dove was born in Akron, Ohio, to Ray Dove, the first African American chemist to work in the U.S tire industry and Elvira Hord, who achieved honors in high school and would share her passion for reading with her daughter. In 1970 Dove Graduated from Butchel High School as a Presidential Scholar. Later, Dove graduated summa cum laude with a B.A. from Miami University in 1973.

Dove married Fred Viebahn, a German writer. They also have a daughter her name is Aviva Dove-VIebahn she was born in 1983. The couple are Avid ballroom dancers, and have participated in a number of showcase performances. Dove and her husband now live in Charlottesville, Virginia

In addition to poetry, Dove has published a book of short stories, Fifth Sunday (University of Kentucky Press, 1985), the novel.Through the Ivory Gate (Pantheon, 1992), essays in The Poet's World and the verse drama The Darker Face of the Earth (1994).
