Magnetism refers to a physical phenomena arising from the force between magnets. They are objects that produce fields that attract or repel other objects.
An electromagnet is a type of magnet in which the magnetic field is produced by an electric current. The magnetic field disappears when the current is turned off. Electromagnets usually consist of a large number of closely spaced turns of wire that create the magnetic field.
Maglev is short for magnetic levitation, which means that these trains will float over a guideway using the basic principles of magnets to replace the old steel wheel and track trains.
We will continue to learn about Maglev Trains. We will learn some vocabulary and have a lab to better understand how Maglev trains work. Ultimately we will build our own Maglev Cars and race them in class.
