Mrs. Loring's 2nd Grade News
August 29, 2014
We spent some time this week learning about "doubles." Doubles are addition sentences with two of the same addends. For example: 0+0=0, 1+1=2, etc. "2+3=5 is not a double because they don't have the same number, 2+2=4 is a double," says Jonathan. Today, the students brought home a math work-mat for homework that needs to be completed and turned in on Tuesday. Also, they have doubles flash cards to practice over the weekend.
Spelling words came home today. The sheet that was sent home looks like the sheet that we'll use at school for "word work" (which is what the letters at the bottom of it are for.) The students will have a spelling test on their words next Friday.
Book orders came home today! This is an opportunity for you or your child to order quality books at a reasonable price. If you would like to order, you may return the order form and money by next Friday, September 5th. You may also order online at www.scholastic.com/readingclub and use the class code: J2ZMM
Ellie says, "I think books are fun and they are up to buy for a reason."
Don't forget that next Wednesday, September 3rd is school picture day! If you haven't already ordered pictures and would like to, please do so by Wednesday.
Noah says, "You can wear nice clothes and nice shoes too on picture day!"
Students should turn their reading logs in on Tuesday. They will earn 10 book bucks for turning it in on time with a parent signature on it. Our goal is for each student to earn 25 book bucks this quarter. Look for new reading logs to come home on Tuesday!
