This Week's NEWS
Golden Apple Kick-Off
The Golden Apple Awards Kick-off will take place THIS WEDNESDAY, October 22 starting at 8:50 am. Nathan Smithson will be taking the lead on this. Annah Dugan, a Suamico parent and on behalf of the Green Bay Chamber of Commerce, will be walking into each grade level classroom to introduce the Golden Apple Awards to each of our students. Please give her about 5 minutes in your classroom when she and Nathan enter. The schedule will go like this: 8:50 - each kindergarten classroom; ~9:05 - each 1st grade classroom, ~9:20 - each 3rd grade classroom; ~9:35 - each 2nd grade classroom; ~ 9:50 - each 4th grade classroom. Thank you in advance for your help!
The Book Fair is coming soon. Class previews will take place on Monday, October 27. CLICK HERE for the schedule so that you know when your class should attend. Teachers will be allowed to choose books (from the profits) on Thursday, October 30. We will determine how much you will be able to spend on Wednesday night. Plan some time that morning to do some book shopping!!!
Read for the Record
Read for the Record takes place on Tuesday, October 21. This year's book is Bunny Cakes by Rosemary Wells. To access the online book - CLICK HERE. If you and your class participate in Read for the Record, please let Janet Hughes know and she will report our overall participation. Thanks!
Family Fun Night
Family Fun Night is on Wednesday, October 30 from 4:30 - 8:00 pm. I would appreciate if you (and your family) would join us for at least part of the evening. In fact, we are still looking for volunteers in several areas...contact Kim or Kimberly if you might be able to help out! We changed the event this year. Here are the details:
- Starting at 4:30, Pancake Man will be serving a pancake dinner. The price per plate is $4. He will flip pancakes to each of you to see if you can catch them! Good luck! Information will go home in this week's (Wednesday) take home folders about how you can buy tickets for Pancake Man BEFORE Family Fun Night (you can also buy those tickets at the door...same price).
- From 4:30 - 6:30, bounce houses will be available in the gym for our students and younger siblings (siblings older than 4th grade cannot participate). The bounce houses were donated by The Chip Shoppe, our fall fundraising company, as a thank you to our families for their participation.
- At 5:00 and 6:30, movies will be playing in the library. Bring a pillow and lay back for some movie fun with your family.
- The Book Fair will be open during Family Fun Night.
Thanks to all of you for the well-wishes with my trip to Arkansas. My mom is doing very well after her rotator cuff shoulder surgery on Thursday, October 16. She is well-medicated and that is helping quite a bit. She's doing better than I expected, so that is relieving. It's been 70 degrees each day, so I certainly can't complain about that! I will be leaving to come home on Wednesday, October 22.
Tackk.com - This Weekly Memo was created with a website tool called "Tackk". Tackk is very similar to Smore, but is free (Smore turned into a paid app last year). Much of the functionality is the same as Smore. As you can see, I was able to choose a Halloween background. It didn't take me much longer to make this Weekly Memo than it does to simply use Google Docs. It is a pretty simple newsletter builder to use. When you access their website at www.tackk.com, you can sign up with your Google account for ease. Give it a try and, as always, think about ways that you might use this tool with students.
Facebook and Twitter
Do you follow Suamico Elementary on Facebook and Twitter? If not, consider doing so! I post items several times per week to keep our families up to date on the many great things that we do at Suamico Elementary. For Facebook, search “Suamico Elementary” and “LIKE” us! On Twitter, search “SuamicoElem”.
Please keep / share pictures and videos throughout the year in the M:SU:2014-15 Files. I appreciate having a variety of pictures to use for different presentations throughout the year AND these pictures will be used for the Memory Book. Thanks in advance for your help!
