How second hand smoking affects you.

SHS (second hand smoking) is a mixture of 2 forms of smoke.

-Sidestream smoke: Smoke from the lighted end of a cigarette, pipe or cigar.

-Mainstream smoke: The smoke exhaled by a smoker.

Sidestream smoke has higher concentrations of cancer causing agents (carcinogens) and is more toxic than  mainstream smoke.

SHS contains 7,000 harmful chemicals, 250 which are known to damage your health. It doesn't stop there, SHS affects you the same way it affects the smoker. It yellows your teeth and hurts your heart and lungs.

SHS can destroy your lungs if you live with a heavy smoker and it increases your chance of lung cancer by 20-35%. Children who live with smokers and constantly second hand smoke are more likely to have asthma and trouble breathing. SHS smoking can even destroy the alveoli in your lungs.

That was only 60 cigarettes. By the age of 5, a child living with a smoker inhales approximately 102 packs. A single pack contains about 20 cigarettes.

Second hand smoking is no joke, it can cause serious damage, but its preventable, stop smoking.
