Around 600,000 spectators were expected at Tuesday's annual Veterans Day Parade in New York City, which had the theme "Land of the Free, Home of the Brave."

The parade paid tribute to the bicentennial of the United States national anthem, "The Star Spangled Banner" with its theme.

The parade honors veterans as well as active members of the United States Armed Forces, that is, the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard. The day started with an opening ceremony at the Eternal Light Flagstaff monument near Madison Square Park in Manhattan before proceding up Fifth Avenue.
