Dandan Noodles

  • Ramen noodles (couldn't find authentic Chinese noodles, and had to use American Sapporo Ichiban noodles…)
  • Ground beef (or whatever ground meat you like… I used two burger patties)
  • 3 Green onions, chopped (set some aside for garnish)
  • 2 garlic cloves, chopped
  • ginger root (about 2 inches), chopped
  • 2 tbsp gochujang (Korean hot pepper paste)
  • 1 Burger King Kung Pao sauce (I thought this was the closest thing I had to what the original recipe called for…)
  • 1 tbsp sugar
  • 4 c water
  • 2 tbsp sesame oil
  • 2 tsp soy sauce
  • 2 tsp rice vinegar
  • 4 tbsp unsalted creamy peanut butter
  • 1 tbsp Better Than Boillon Chicken Base
  • 2 tsp Hondashi
  • roasted white sesame seeds for garnish

  • Brown ground meat in a pot over medium heat
  • Add garlic, ginger and green onion, cook for 1 minute
  • Add gochujang and Kung Pao sauce, cook for another minute
  • Add water, sugar, chicken base and hondashi, bring it to a boil over high heat
  • Reduce heat, and stir in sugar, sesame oil, soy sauce, rice vinegar and peanut butter
  • Cook noodles as directed, drain
  • In a bowl, pour soup over noodles, and garnish with green onion and sesame seeds
