About David Alport
After devoting a large portion of his career to travel media and
consulting, David Alport now works in the humanitarian sector. He is
senior vice president of communications for the Office of the United
Nations Secretary-General's Special Envoy for the Health Millennium
Development Goals and for Malaria. David Alport has also served for more
than four years on the board of Housing Works Thrift Shops, an
organization focused on supporting the homeless and HIV-positive
population of New York City.
Alport previously served as vice president of communications, global events and external affairs at GBCHealth (Global Business Coalition on Health), a nonprofit organization focused on helping business around the world channel their resources towards important health causes. Prior to joining GBCHealth, he was a travel industry consultant to Starwood, Emirates, Atlantis, and Andre Balazs. Prior to that, Alport spent 12 years as founder, president and publisher of Out & About, the acclaimed gay and lesbian travel website and travel guidebook series.
Alport continues his travels outside of the professional sphere and maintains Upright and Stowed, a blog about his travel experiences and related topics. Alongside his interest in travel, he appreciates theater and other fine arts in his free time.
