University of Texas at El Paso
4th period English 1
University of Texas at El Paso
I chose this university because I feel that it is full of so many different opportunities . What is really fascinating is that if one day you ever decide to change your mind in a different career pathway, UTEP has so many other great options to choose from. Also, I chose this university because it is ranked Top 10 in the nation with many great programs that will prepare me with the right and useful skills I will need for my future.
The University of Texas at El Paso was first named The Texas State School of Mines and Metallurgy when founded in 1914 located around Ft. Bliss. A while later a fire destroyed the campus, making the university move to its original location. In 1949, the name changed again to Texas Western College of the University of Texas. It's current name originated in 1967. This university first opened with 27 students enrolled, now in Fall 2011, it reached a record breaking 22,640 students!
In order to apply, you will need to go to the website applytexas.org and fill out as many questions as possible. That website can be used for all the schools in Texas. Once you apply, you will get your Miner Insider ID emailed to you to check up on your admission application status. Then you will need an official High School transcript that includes your diploma type, rank, and GPA. Finally, you will just need to send out your official test scores to the Office of Admissions and Recruitment.
Getting into college isn't just filling out an application and sending some money. No! You need to really earn your spot. It may be tough, but not impossible. You need to have a certain amount of credits in several subjects to get accepted into UTEP. English you will need 4 credits, Mathematics- 3 or 4 credits, Natural Science - 3 credits, Social Studies- 4 credits, Foreign Language- 3 years, Health- 0.5, Fine Arts and Computer science- 1 year, and lastly P.E- 1.5 years. Test scores are also a challenge in this college. SAT scores have to be at 1350 or higher mixing math, reading, and writing. ACT composite scores have to be 18 and if possible, higher. If a student exceeds its required test scores and grades, they have an almost guaranteed admission.

My Career as a Nurse
I want to pursue a career mostly in medicine or nursing. I chose this career because I really enjoy helping others and taking care of them when they are in need of attention. Ever since I was a young girl, I have never been disgusted by anything! I can see blood, vomit or any other gory objects and unlike most people, I wont be affected by it as much. I feel like that's a very good characteristic for someone who wants to work in hospital settings like me.
From this research I have learned that nurses don't just fluff pillows and follow doctor's orders. They are a very important part when it comes to healthcare. They also don't just treat patients who can be injured and or sick, they can offer emotional support and advice to the families of the patients. I have always been a person with a bright personality with positiveness all around. I work extremely hard and push myself every day toward everything I set my mind on. I believe that this nurse career would be a perfect fit for me. Soon, everything will be worth it.
The BLS reports the median salary for a registered nurse was $66,220 in 2013. The best-paid 10 percent made more than $94,320. Mainly, it is a range from $45,000 all the way to $95,000.
Nurses get paid an hourly rate for 12 hour shifts. Also, overtime if they put in for it for missing breaks or having to stay after their shift is over. They don't get paid overtime after 40 hours (work 84 hours in 2 weeks) but they do get a paid day off every six weeks, which is equal. It's actually really nice because if you take that day with a stat day you get a paid week off every six weeks.
Job Duties and Description

2) Monitor, record and report symptoms and changes in patients' conditions.
3) Record patients medical information and vital signs.
4) Modify patient treatment plans as indicated by patients' responses and conditions.

Educational Requirements and Benefits

In between those years you'll learn Community health, Leadership in nursing, Healthcare management, Nursing research, Health assessment & Professional issues in nursing.
