dallas byers club Movie Review

The Hollywood superstar and Oscar winner Matthew McConaughey stars in Dallas Buyers Club as Ron Woodroof, a cowboy from texas who is diagnosed HIV-positive and has 30 days to live. Before that life changing news, Ron worked in a construction site and had multiple sex partners at home and even at work. When the people around him learned the terrible news, they started to put him aside and treat him differently. At that time, everyone thought HIV was a gay disease. He couldn’t go to work anymore and his friends would call him “Faggot”. To find a way out of his 30 days sentence, he will go to Mexico to buy drugs that weren’t approved by the FDA (US Food and Drugs Administration) to cure himself and sell them to the HIV positive members of his town. To reach the clients, he will start a partnership with Rayon, a transgender prostitute (Jared Leto) who also has HIV, because he can reach the gay community and raise the popularity of the products. They afterwards named their business the “Dallas Buyers Club”.

To impersonate the characters, the two main actors will go through a major body transformation for the movie. Matthew McConaughey will lose 20kg and Jared Leto will have a complete makeover to look like a transgender prostitute. The dedication of these two actors will not be in vain because they each won an Oscar and multiple awards for their role. The movie teaches us a cruel reality that the majority of us don’t want to discuss or even ignore.
