A literary connoisseur is able to discern the quality of writing and give reasons for his or her judgement... (Eisner, 1985)

In summary:

A connoisseur is an individual who has come to know about their subject. A critic is a person who can render what they have come to know in a simplified and understandable form to the masses. This (according to John Dewey (1934)) enables people to 're-see' work with fresh eyes. This can be applied to education in three ways: general practice, resources and teaching performance.
