Details of Doritos
The ingredient list for Doritos is long which is one bad sign for a processed food. Another bad sign of processed food that Doritos shows is unrecognizable ingredients. If you don't know what the ingredients are that are on the list, that is not a good sign. It is said that the more ingredients on the list, the more processed the food is.
Surprisingly, Doritos nutritional content is not as bad as you would think. It's still not great though. It has 8 grams of fat and 140 calories per serving. The sodium in Doritos is very high and also not good for you. So like the ingredients list, the nutritional content is also not very healthy or good.
How are Doritos made?
The Doritos start as fresh potatoes or whole grain corn. The corn then gets cooked with lime and water. From there, they add salt and oil. Then the big mix of ingredients goes back to the production area and becomes what's called masa. Lastly, they bake and let the chips set so they can be shipped out to stores!
Can they be healthier?
Not only can Doritos be just healthier, but you can also make them vegan! These Doritos are oven baked and not fried. After you bake your chips, you can make your own seasoning. All the ingredients in the recipe for the seasoning are ingredients that I recognize! They have three different options that you can make. Spicy taco, cool ranch and nacho cheese.
