Athlete's foot is a fungal infection that usually begins between the toes. It occurs most commonly in people whose feet have become very sweaty while confined within tight-fitting shoes.

It's affected on people who have sweaty feet

  • Dry skin
  • Itching with or without burning  which gets worse as the infection spreads
  • Scaling
  • Cracking
  • Redness
  • A white, wet surface  which may open and become painful

Fungal infections of the feet  are contagious and can be  spread person to person or by walking on contaminated objects and floors.

It can be treated with over-the-counter antifungal medications, but the infection often recurs. Prescription medications also are available.
