Oil Slick

I started by measuring the sides of the shapes I made in my oil pattern. I multiplied each side by 15 because 1 cm:15 miles. Then I multiplied the sides of each shape together, because that is how you find area. I then added all those areas up to get the grand total area, of 20035.125 miles.

Answers to Questions:

1. I doubt that my area is an exact measure of the real spill, because I could have measured a few millimeters  off, or could have made some mathematical mistakes. Also, maybe the pattern of the spill was not an exact blueprint of the real spill.

2. I reckon that my polygons are not exactly accurate to the real area affected by the spill, but probably fairly close. My answer may have been less than the area of the real spill.
