Best Places to Visit in New Zealand
New Zealand is one of the most picturesque and photogenic places on earth. It is made up of two major islands, known as the North Island and the South Island, and a number of smaller islands. Stewart Island is one of these smaller islands located in the southwestern Pacific Ocean. The two main islands are divided by a 22km stretch of water called the Cook Strait. It is a country that is full of natural beauty and ample activities for the adventurer. The country is made up of some of the world's most spectacular landscapes, from vast mountain ranges, steaming volcanoes to sweeping coastlines. Terry Hay who is from New Zealand shares some suggestions on the best places to visit in New Zealand.
Terry Hay says Kaikoura which is located on the east coast of New Zealand's South Island, is one place that won’t disappoint. The town overlooks majestic mountains, which are snow-capped for many months of the year. Besides the beautiful landscape, the real attraction lies in the waters off the coast where a rich habitat of marine mammals and seabirds exists. Terry says it’s truly a beautiful place.
Terry also suggests taking a visit to the Coromandel Peninsula just a couple hour outside of Auckland. The Coromandel is blessed with a superb climate coupled with some of New Zealand's best beaches. One of Terry’s favorite attractions here is a thermal beach called Hot Water Beach.
Lastly, Terry Hay suggests a couple of national parks that are well worth the visit. Westland National Park in New Zealand is part of the South Westland World Heritage area and is famous for its mountains and two dominant glaciers, Fox and Franz Josef. They are the closest glaciers to the coastline of any in the world outside the polar regions. Terry also says Mt. Cook National Park is another great place to visit. Mt Cook and the surrounding area is an alpine park also within the World Heritage area in South Westland. The biggest peaks in all of Australia are here including the highest mountain, Mt Cook, and neighboring peaks such as Mt Tasman and Mt Sefton. Terry Hay says these national parks have some of the most beautiful sceneries.
