Photosynthesis

What is Photosynthesis?

Photosynthesis is the process by which green plants and some other organisms use sunlight to synthesize foods from carbon dioxide and water.

Photosynthesis Formula

Why We Need Photosynthesis

Photosynthesis provides us with most of the oxygen we need in order to breathe. We, in turn, exhale the carbon dioxide needed by plants.

Light Dependent and Light Independent Cycles

Light dependent reaction converts light energy (goes in) to chemical energy (goes out).

Light independent cycle aka Calvin Cycle converts (what goes in) carbon dioxide and other compounds into (what goes out) glucose.

Why Photosynthesis is required for life

Photosynthesis provides us with the most oxygen that we need to breathe. It also provides plants and animals with the energy that they need.

Chloroplast

Chloroplast Structure!

The Chloroplast is a large complex double membrane that performs the function of photosynthesis within the plant cell. Chloroplast are present in the Chlorophill ( the pigment) in a plant which helps convert the solar energy to carbohydrates.

Function of parts of Chloroplast

Chloroplast - place where photosynthesis occurs

Thylakoid - A flattened membrane sac inside the chloroplast, used to convert light energy into chemical energy.

Granum - A stack of thylakoids in a chloroplast

Stroma - The fluid of the chloroplast surrounding the thylakoid membrane.

Chlorophill - Green pigment in plants that absorbs light energy used to carry out photosynthesis

Inner Membrane - Located under the smooth outer membrane.

Outer Membrane - The smooth outer covering of the chloroplast.

Lamellae - The tissue that connects the grana to each other.

Why the Chloroplast should get a raise and better benifits

The chloroplast is important to the cell because they help the plant to photosynthesise, which allow the nutrients from the light and the soil which is then taken up the plant, from here the cells use the nutrients to respire. Therefore in return the Chloroplast makes glucose, and oxygen for us to survive. Without it we would all die. That's why the Chloroplast should get a raise, and get better benifits.
