MOBILE LEARNING: APPS TO USE TO TEACH LITERACY
THESE ANDROID APPS WOULD BE APPROPRIATE TO USE IN GRADES K TO 6
For Module 7, we explored apps to support learning and literacy in the classroom. I chose to look at Android apps in the Google Play store and Chrome Web Store for apps for tablets, smartphones, and web browsers.
You can use this app to make beautiful, personalized videos with your own pictures and videos on your mobile devices. Music can also be added to your video and the app has a huge selection of music to choose from. This would be great for students to use when doing on field experiences. The students can take pictures and videos on their field trip and then use this app to make a video presentation for the class of all the things they saw.
We all have experience using this for Module 2. I thought it was an interesting and easy way of making presentation more personalized by either using our own voices to narrate, or typing if there is no microphone available. This would be useful for students to make their own presentation in Social Studies.
This is another great app to use in giving students another option in creating personalized presentations. The students can make their own comic strips regarding anything they would like. It would be great for students to use to create their own stories, especially in Language Arts.
This is a website that can be used on a tablet or smartphone. Students can make videos of themselves for presentations, video journals etc. I thought this would be great to use when having students do an About Me presentation, the students can show aspects of their culture at home.
This app would be great to use with the younger grades to get them interested in current events. Students can make their own news reports with these cute characters, or they can show you what they know about current events by having the characters repeat a story they know about.
