Geography of Japan

I have time-traveled back to the days of the 1600's in Japan. And this nice teenager on the streets of Japan invites me to wait out the Typhoon. During the Storm he tells me how extreme weather has affected their life, as Japan is an island and has oceans around it.Also, Japan is a long, narrow chain of volcanic islands. It is made up of thousands of islands but most of the population lives on the main four islands, Honshu, Shikokou, Kyushu, and Hokkaido. the climate has allowed them to farm one of the easiest food to grow, rice.
