In this chemical reaction, 100 mL of MgSO4 (epsom salt) was dumped into a beaker filled with 200 mL of H2O (water).

Reaction Information

The unbalanced chemical equation for our reaction is H2O + MgSO4 --> H2SO4 + MgO and since the equation is already balanced, no further changes need to be made. This reaction is endothermic because the temperature of the substance decreases. The reactants are water and epsom salt, and the products are magnesium oxide and sulfuric acid. The highest temperature is 22.2 degrees and the lowest was 18.1 degrees. There was a change in color from clear to more white once the Epsom salt was added.
