Jo  urnal Entry #1

5/13/1862

I am Ann, Ann Smith that is. I am 23 years old, and am a part of the Union side and I am a Nurse that helps all of the soldiers who get injured during the war. I am from New York  and I live a pretty simple. I am married to a man named Charles Smith. He is very caring, and a very good husband. He is a general on the Union side as well, our perspective of slavery is the same which is one of the reasons why we get along so well. We currently have no children, so Charles is my only family. My parents died when I was 14 years old. I have learned how to be an independent women and do everything on my own without relying on anyone's support to guide me along.

John: Thanks, possums.

Saloni: Hunky Dory!

Caylie: Here are the greenbacks!

William: Been through the mill, have ya?

John: I’m played out from all this partying.

Fiza: Lets have cake! I will cut it with Arkansas toothpick

*WE ALL EAT CAKE*

John: I’m feeling the quick-step comin, gotta Skedaddle!

Caylie: I’m whipped, bye guys!

Journal Entry #3-

Dear Charles,

Hello honey, I miss you so much! Even though I haven't seen you in a long time, I still feel connected to you because I think about you every day. How are you doing? Are you okay? Is your health okay? As you know, I am a nurse so I don't do very much other than help people get better, so I see a lot of things. The hygiene in the area is not good. The soldiers live in tiny areas with small dirty tents, and they are not comfortable. This is why a lot of the soldiers get sick and injured. The soldiers do not talk about very much about anything other than what they are supposed to which is training. So, onto another topic, I took a picture today, it is of the tents that the soldiers live in. As you can see, this does not look very appealing.

Interview with Jeremiah

Names: Saloni, Anish, Shivam

When creating our story we read pages 1, 2, 3, and .

Your job is to interview the fictional character of Jeremiah Handley and
write out the answers as you believe he would have given them.

Make sure to include information or ideas drawn from your analysis of
primary sources. Cite the source material as your teacher directs.

Interview question 1

Jeremiah, when you chose to leave your mother and go with your brother to enter for the war,
what caused you to make that choice?

J: I wanted to help the South win, and I agreed with their philosophies and also I though I would do a good job on the farm.

Interview question 2

Jeremiah, looking back what is something in your life that you are proud or
happy about?

J: I was proud and happy enough that I was able to make the derision to leave my Mother and go do something and fight for what I believed in. I was glad that I was brave enough to make a big desision

Interview question 3

Jeremiah, what is one thing about your life you wish had been different?

J: Well, I wished that I didn't have to leave my mother behind because I have lived with her all my life and she has been their for me every step of the way. It is sad that  I had to leave her like that all alone.

Interview question 4 (Look back at the italicized section at your "ending")

Jeremiah, What will Jeremiah's part be? How will it affect the South to have nearly

every battle in its territory? What will it be like to be in a battle involving
tens of thousands of soldiers? Will everyday routine and small encounters

be all some groups experience?

Jeremiah was a soldier and he was able to survive one battle but at the next battle he ended up getting shot in the arm and he had to leave because the wound was too deep. He wouldn't be much help to them anymore with basically a useless arm.

Ask a question that makes Jeremiah talk about one of the issues brought

up at the end of the story you chose to create.

What do you think about one of your fellow soldiers after they shot you?

This is a forest that I would see right when I wake up, this is where my tent is and this is where I live. The sun is peeking in from in between the trees therefore, it is morning.

Journal Entry #5-

My favorite pass-time was to play was solitaire, it would take me a while to finish the whole game so it distracted me from other things. Since it took a lot of time, it was fun to play with my friends because they helped me out. My favorite food to eat was cornbread because it is so delicious and has so much taste to it.

Journal Entry #6

Journal Entry #7-

As a nurse, I have seen a lot of injuries and traumatizing experiences. People have come to us with injuries with non-stop bleeding and terrible infections and diesies. What I do to help them is when they have a wound, I wrap it up and I give them medicine.

Hournal Entry #8-

It is now time for me to go home, the battle has finally finished. We won! Yay! Going home is going to be a little different. I will be going home with my husband Charles and go on with our lives. I will be working as a part time nurse so I can still continue doing what I love. I will also get to go back to my favorite rocking chair that I always read in. It will be good to be home.
