Dr. Abdul Rao Facilitating Ochsner Clinical School Collaborations
Based in New Orleans, Louisiana, Dr. Abdul Rao guides the Ochsner Health System, which encompasses 14 hospitals and 43 clinics. His leadership responsibilities include research oversight spanning clinical trials, health services, and translational areas. Dr. Abdul Rao also serves as professor and deputy head of research with the University of Queensland-Ochsner Clinical School. He is tasked with enhancing the quality of research and collaborative interaction between faculty members and students in New Orleans and Brisbane, Australia.
Prior to taking his current positions, Dr. Rao served as professor of surgery and molecular medicine at University of South Florida Health (USF Health). One of his primary research areas was the translation of new therapeutic strategies from bench to bedside. His clinical research has included a National Institutes of Health-funded protocol for inducing donor-specific tolerance in patients receiving organ allografts. Dr. Abdul Rao has also pursued molecular biology and basic cellular research in areas such as posttransplant vasculopathy and islet cell transplantation.
