Marie Antoinette, the most Hated woman in France:life
Marie as a young child
Marie Antoinette was born November 2 1755 in Vienna, Austria to Maria Theresa of Austria and Francis I Holy Roman Emperor . She was the 15th child in her family out of 16 children. Marie had always been a young lady for extravagance. All of her dresses and Jewelry were fancy and expensive and she wanted to live a fancy lifestyle. She was very intelligent but never opened a book. During this time period France and Austria were bitter enemies but needed to form an alliance. Therefor in 1776 Maria Theresa took steps to strengthen the alliance. One of the most important steps was to arrange a marriage between Marie and Louis XVI of France. As a result poor Marie Antoinette was engaged at the age of 14. However before the French government would approve of the marriage Marie had to have her curly hair fashionably styled and her crooked teeth straightened. Marie wore an early form of braces for a couple of months! The braces must have hurt but apparently worked because Louis and Marie got married. They were first married in Austria then set off for France to be married again. They were opposites. He loved reading and ate books, She barely opened a book. He loved hunting, she strolled the palace gardens on a sunny day. He liked the daytime and went to bed early. She took interests at nighttime when she could gamble, have fancy parties and dance. During the marriage she had four children. Three died, only one lived but never had kids. Marie has no living descendants. Due to her taste for an extravagant lifestyle, she spend France's money like mad. During this time, the economy of France was bad and the people were starving. They blamed the problems on the Royal Family. They especially blamed Marie. Finally, the people of France had had enough and stormed the palace. They took Marie and her husband prisoner. A few long years later Louis was tried and put to death on the guillotine. A year later Marie was tried and executed, as well.
The Cause of her execution
A guillotine from the French Revolution
I think the reason Marie was was beheaded was because she had an extravagant lifestyle, spent much money and did not care about the welfare of the people of France. She had an extravagant lifestyle as a child, her parents spoiled her and bought her fancy gowns and accessorys. Unfortunately, when she married Louis XVI she brought her extravagance to France. Her purchase of many fancy gowns and jewels caused the country to go into debt. Also during that time the farmers in France were struggling. Crops did not grow easily and therefore the cost of bread increased. Most people in France could not afford to buy bread and began to starve to death. As a result, the people became angry with the Royal Family for being selfish and not trying to help the average person. The French Revolution may have been prevented if Marie had taken steps to improve the economy of France and see that the people were more comfortable. With the money Marie had she could have bought or traded crops from another country to feed the people. However, she decided to continue to live a fancy lifestyle. Her lack of caring and self-indulgence caused the people of France to storm the palace and imprison the royal family.

First, Marie Antoinette was born in Vienna, Austria to Maria Theresa of Austria and Francis I Holy Roman Emperor in 1755. Her mother, Maria Theresa, formed an alliance with France and had a marriage arranged between Marie and Louis XVI the heir to the French throne. Marie had to go to France and leave Austria and her parents forever and stay in a country she had never been in. She loved an extravagant lifestyle. She bought fancy and expensive things. Her spending put France in debt. Also, during this time the farmers had difficulty growing crops. Their harvest of wheat was small and as a result, so the price of bread increased. Almost no one in France could afford bread. People became angry and stormed the place and took the royal family prisoner. Louis XVI was tried and put to Death on the guillotine. A year later the same thing happened to Marie.
My name is Alison and I go to Holman middle school this was a research project. I wanted to do it on Marie Antoinette because or a funny little story, my mom was on YouTube and was watching someone play a Nancy Drew video game Called Treasure in the Royal Tower. The game is about Nancy trying to get into a tower imported over from France that Marie used to visit. I thought this project would be a good opportunity to learn more about her. I was fascinated by Marie and even thought she was looked at as one of the most hated woman in France I think she was still a neat person to learn about and she is one of my favorite historical characters.
